FAQ's

What can I expect from my first session?

The first session will be focused on introducing the concepts of IFS, and getting familiar with what a part is and feels like. It can be a little overwhelming at first, and I think of it as learning a new skill, which takes time and patience.

What can I expect from a typical IFS session?

A typical session will involve choosing a part to get to know better, and engaging with it to learn more about it. Sometimes we will be able to heal a part, and help let go of whatever burdens it might be holding. Sometimes strong emotions can come up, but these are handled safely and you will never be pushed beyond what you can handle.

What are the overall benefits from engaging in IFS therapy?

Benefits include improved self-awareness, emotional healing, better relationships, and greater internal harmony and peace. IFS also brings lasting change that can be felt on a deep level.

How do I prepare for an IFS session?

There is nothing that you need to do, but it can be helpful to have an idea of what you might want to focus on – whether it’s a situation that has recently happened, something that comes up a lot, or a specific part you have identified.

What can I expect after a session?

In order for IFS to work the best, it is helpful if you can touch base daily with whatever part we focused on during the session. This will be talked about in session and together we come up with a reasonable plan.

Depending on if a healing took place and how intense the session might be, you might feel a little stirred up inside, but this quickly settles. It helps to be able to have a little down time after a session if possible to help integrate whatever was worked on.
